Message from the Dean
By now all of you should have heard the news that I'll be stepping down and leaving RAND at the end of the summer — but enough about me (well, after you read the article below). The real news is the wonderful student community we've developed at Pardee Commons — our feature below — thanks to the continued generosity of Fred Pardee. Other excellent news: the 10-year reaccreditation we received earlier this month. I'm also proud to share the terrific activities the school and RAND have developed surrounding diversity, both internally and in conjunction with the Volcker Alliance's Government-to-University Initiative.
I would also be remiss if I didn't congratulate our students for all their research, and thank our alumni for helping interview applicants for Cohort ’21. We also have an impressive number of new alumni jobs and some exciting recent and upcoming events — though, unfortunately, Commencement is not among them... until next year!
In sum, this is another packed issue of Findings. What, you thought a year of global pandemic would slow us down? Think again!
Susan
Susan Marquis
Frank and Marcia Carlucci Dean, Pardee RAND Graduate School
PS: if you haven't already done so, I also encourage you to read the 2019-20 Dean’s Report and get nostalgic watching our
Campus Tour video.

Even in a Ph.D. program, student life is about more than academics. That's why Pardee RAND is so excited to announce the development of Pardee Commons, a new rent-subsidized student housing community close to campus. Fred Pardee's $10 million gift “enables us to create a new type of Pardee RAND community, providing a mutually supportive social and academic environment.” More »

Alumni Ambassadors Play Pivotal Role
Alumni Ambassadors are key to our admissions process. This year, 36 alumni helped to interview applicants and provided personal feedback to the admissions committee, while also providing applicants a unique perspective on Pardee RAND. It's easy to get involved — we hope you'll consider doing so next year!

Commencement Postponed to 2022
Hoping to have an in-person celebration, Pardee RAND had already postponed the planned 2020 Commencement and Alumni Weekend twice because of the pandemic. Knowing that a virtual ceremony would not be as meaningful to our graduates, the school has opted to wait until June 17-18, 2022.
