Four years ago, the Program on Liberation Technology at Stanford University started a project to fight last-mile corruption in basic public services using mobile phones and other communication technologies. Vivek Srinivasan, one of the leaders of the initiative, will discuss the design challenges in such a project, and the impact of the work in reducing corruption and increasing accountability.

Vivek developed an enduring interest in ensuring that everyone in India has access to basic public services during his activist days with India's Right to Food Campaign. This led to his Ph.D. at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University on understanding Tamil Nadu's remarkable success in providing basic services to all, which was recently published by Oxford University Press. He is now a researcher with the Program on Liberation Technology at Stanford University where he leads the "Combating Corruption with Mobile Phones" project to make basic public services transparent to the rural poor.
