Program

Economic inclusion irrespective of race and gender remains a critical and reinvigorated issue in the US. Daryn Dodson, founder and managing director of Illumen Capital, built his organization because while companies that are more diverse and inclusive have repeatedly been shown to perform better financially, investments in this space remain limited. Of the $36 trillion in the asset management industry, which invests money for big institutions and private investors, just 1 percent is managed by firms owned by women and minorities.

As impact investing funds proliferate and capital flow increases towards vehicles that invest for both social and financial returns, it’s of urgent importance that we intervene to mitigate the biases that have led to this injustice. If impact investors don’t commit to doing so, they risk not only perpetuating the same inequities present across race & gender in global financial markets, but also leaving money on the table. This talk will explore the multi-trillion dollar investment opportunity to apply a strategy that both unlocks latent financial returns and creates a more equitable world.

This event is co-sponsored by the RAND Diversity Forum
