Pardee RAND Celebrates the Life and Legacy of James Q. Wilson

James Q. Wilson, one of the past century's most honored and influential thinkers, left an indelible mark on American government and civil society. Wilson had a particular influence on RAND and the Pardee RAND Graduate School, where he served both as a longtime member of the graduate school's Board of Governors and a trustee for the RAND Corporation.
In 2012, Wilson and his family bestowed his papers and books on the Pardee RAND Graduate School; this became the foundation for Pardee RAND to establish the James Q. Wilson Collection within the RAND library. The Collection will include the archive of Wilson's papers, photographs, and records, and key publications of his many students. The James Q. Wilson Public Policy Collection will be a permanent and prominent element within the RAND library.
Wilson's seminal scholarship on a range of critical issues — including crime, justice, policing, drug policy, marriage and family, politics, and public bureaucracy — resonates to this day through his publications, his public service, and his lifelong commitment to teaching. We celebrated Wilson's influence and impact, and dedicated the James Q. Wilson Collection, on Thursday, January 17, 2013. The photos below are from that event.
