Economic Development

This course will introduce students to the major issues in economic development from both a microeconomic and a macroeconomic perspective. We will cover a variety of topics including technological change, poverty, human capital accumulation, institutions, conflict, foreign aid, globalization, industrial policies, and environmental issues. Both theory and empirical applications will be explored. Students will read, discuss and critically evaluate recent academic literature on these topics; conduct an empirical exercise; and develop their own research ideas on development topics.
