Qualitative and Mixed Methods II: Practicum
Professor: Ryan
Units: 0.5
Elective Course (Fulfills a requirement in the Community-Partnered Policy and Action stream; fulfills a Research, Analysis, and Design Empirical Analysis distribution requirement)
This is the second section of the two-part Qualitative and Mixed Methods Series. In the first 5 weeks (in the Spring), we covered the basic stages for effectively using semi-structured interviews to collect data, including: formulating a comparative research question, developing frameworks and interview protocols, and the skills related to conducting interviews. In this 5-week course, we will focus on managing and analyzing interview data, and presenting the results. This is a hands-on course, and although we will briefly cover a range of analytic traditions, participants are expected to conduct an analysis of previously collected data and write-up the results. Classes will be divided between methodological discussions and in-class presentations.
